Carling Cup Day Two Brings Upsets

Derby fell to Crewe thanks to an own goal by Shaun Barker on the stroke of halftime.  This is the second year a League Two club has claimed the scalp of Derby in the opening round of the Carling Cup.  Last season they were knocked out by Rotherham.  To dull the anger of Derby fans, Nottingham Forest was likewise kicked out by League Two side Bradford City 2-1.  Watford demolished Aldershot Town 3-0, while Rochdale kept the League Two upset train going with a 1-0 over Barnsley.  Brentford took care of Cheltenham Town 2-1, and Huddersfield Town squeaked by Carlisle United 1-0, with a goal by Jordan Rhodes in the 89th minute.  Middlesbrough took care of Chesterfield 2-1, while Accrington Stanley upset Doncaster Rovers in extra time 2-1.  Ipswich Town got by Exeter City 2-1, Colchester United took care of Hereford Town 3-0, and Leeds United beat Lincoln City 4-0.

On Friday, Pompey defeated Stevenage 2-1.  There are three more matches to be played on Wednesday: Cardiff City v Burton Albion, Hartlepool v Sheffield United and Torquay v Reading.  Will any of these Championship side fall victim to an upset like many did today?
