Randall Brenes sends Costa Rica into heaven as he scores late in stoppage time

After a 36 minute weather delay due to lightning, Costa Rica and El Salvador took the field in what turned out to be a thrilling match.  El Salvador took the lead in first half stoppage time on a glorious free kick from Rodolfo Zelaya.  It looked like El Salvador would pull off the upset, but Costa Rica was able to steal a point when Randall Brenes was able to drill a shot into the back of the net late in injury time.

Chicharito scores his second on the night and fifth in two games at the Gold Cup

Mexico and Cuba were next up in a contest that was getting a lot of press pre-match due to five Mexican players being suspended for testing positive for a banned substance.  You wouldn’t have realized it though based on the way they played.  Chicharito opened up the scoring and added a second late, while dos Santos also had a brace.  The other goal scorer on the night for Mexico was Aldo de Nigris.  Mexico embarrassed Cuba 5-0, eliminating Cuba for possible progression with a game to play.
