Joe Elliot 2 (208x300)

Joe Elliott, lead singer for Down ‘N’ Outz and Def Leppard, is a born and bred Sheffield United supporter. With the Blades set to take on Hull City this weekend for a spot in the FA Cup Final, Joe was kind enough to take some time to answer a few questions about his favorite club.

How Are You Feeling Ahead Sunday’s match against Hull City?

Excited to see my team at Wembley, but realistic enough to know that we’re going to have to be on the top of our game, while Hull have a stinker!!

Will You Be At Wembley This Weekend?

Of course I’m going to be there!!!

How Difficult Is It To Support A Mid-Table Team?

A lot easier than supporting one that was second bottom 10 weeks ago!!

Any Advice For Fans Of Other Mid-Table Teams About How To Deal With It?

Accept the fact that 91 teams effectively don’t win anything. OK, yes, you get a handful of promoted teams that enjoy a week of two of euphoria, but then the reality kicks in that more likely than not you’ll lose more games next season than last.

Which Is More Difficult: Being Mid-Table Or Being In A Relegation Battle?

Duh…

That Being Said, The Blades Are 8 Points From A Promotion Playoff Spot With 6 Games To Go. Are You Hopeful They Can Go On A Run And Grab That Last Playoff Spot?

Not after the 10 wins on the bounce came to a halt. I said 6 weeks ago that we’ll probably fall about 5 or 6 points short, but it’s better than going down and if we can start next season the way we’re finishing this one we should be good for going up!!

What’s The One Thing Sheffield United Need To Do To Get Back To The Premier League?

Keep very friendly with the foreign investor (Saudi Prince Abduallah bin Mossad bin Abduaziz Al Saud) who threw his check book at us!! The sad truth is you need money to succeed.

What’s Your Favorite Memory As A Blades Supporter?

Watching Tony Currie in his pomp, the Bassett years (mostly), playing in TC’s (Currie’s) testimonial in front of 18,000 back in 1986!!! George Best passed to me, so I gave it back to him so I could tell my grandchildren I had.

How Many Times Have You Watched “When Saturday Comes”?

**Editor’s Note: “When Saturday Comes” is a 1996 film about Sheffield United starring Sean Bean. Elliott produced the music for the film.**

Twice. Once to see how loud they had my songs (not loud enough!) and once, having been told that Sean Bean had to take the winning penalty numerous times, to see if anyone in the crowd was laughing out loud/cheering ironically!!!

And speaking of music, Joe Elliott’s band Down’N’ Outz is releasing a new album titled “The Further Adventures Of…” on April 21. You can get more information about the band and their new album on their Facebook page.

One Response to “Talking Sheffield United With Down ‘N’ Outz Lead Singer Joe Elliott”

  1. I am a Wednesday fan as you know, but for the sake of Sheffield, just do it boys.
    Enjoy the day.
