Tonight, the stars aligned for Sebastian Le Toux. In front of a sold out crowd, the Frenchman netted two goals to help the Union beat a struggling Montreal side. Carlos Valdes, a Union fan favorite, made his debut tonight after going on loan for a year in Colombia. Sebastian Le Toux first opened the scoring by beating two defenders and the goalie for an unassisted goal in the 12th minute. The remainder of the first half saw Montreal with most of the possession and chances, none of them in which the Impact could capitalize on.
Going into the second half, the Union were able to maintain more possession and create more chances. Sebastian Le Toux scored his second goal in the 63rd minute with an assist from Andrew Wenger. Sebastian Le Toux had a few chances to create a hat trick but was unsuccessful against a Montreal side desperate to break their 5 game losing streak. In the 79th minute, Maxim Tissot scored off of a Union defensive lapse to bring Montreal back into the game. Philadelphia was able to hold out for the win, their second in six games.
Philadelphia now has their eye on the US Open Cup. They play FC Dallas in the semi-final round on Tuesday, August 12th at 7:00pm (stream TBA). If the Union win, they host the final against either the Seattle Sounders or the Chicago Fire. The Union will stay in Texas for another game against the Houston Dynamo on Friday, August 15th. With 3 games in one week, tired legs and travel will definitely factor into these upcoming games.
