Tito Vilanova Cancer Relapse: RIP

It's been reported that ex-Barcelona manager Tito Vilanova has had a third recurrence of the cancer of the parotid gland that he was diagnosed with in the fall of 2011. He had undergone chemotherapy on two occasions prior; once in New York while his assistant directed the club. He was forced to step down last Summer and has been battling it ever since. Last Friday he was urgently rushed to a local hospital and his condition has worsened forced to undergone emergency surgery yesterday. Today one of the most decorated FC Barcelona managers has lost his battle.

I guess you can put this as either a quiet reflection or a call for prayer if that's how you choose to respond. I would say football is the furthest from our conversation here. This is certainly about how we support Tito Vilanova and his family in this battle, in however minuscule way we can, but let's not forget what this story is about. It's about cancer.

One man's struggle sure, but we have all been effected by that insidious disease. Get yourself checked. Do the same for friends and family. Do whatever you can. Give to cancer charities with your time, effort, monetary or otherwise. Forget about football for now. Anims Tito wherever you are.
